Disaster Profile
There were many typhoons that hit BF Homes. For example Typhoon Gener became a Tropical Storm on July 30, 2012 leaving people running for shelter as they tried to escape the heavy rains, not to mention the floods and power outages. Most of Manila was hit by this, and Barangay BF is not an exception. Being such a large area, the scope of damage differed in each area. Most places experienced floods, while others had no power in their homes. It did not come as a surprise to many when classes had to be suspended in most areas. The storm in general took hundreds of our countrymen, and left thousands stranded. Though the damage was not as severe in Barangay BF, it still posed many problems to the health of the people, such as Leptospirosis. This is a fatal disease that is animal-borne. This virus can travel in flood waters and enter into the open wounds of those who happen to be wading in the water. Hundreds of people were affected and many have died. This is why the officials of the Barangays must quickly fix the problem of floods, to lessen the number of casualties.
There were also other storms like:
- Ondoy
- Milenyo
Conclusion
We conclude that due to the physical features to our barangay being relatively flat, floods can occur but do not get very high. We believe that these problems can be solved through proper disposal and segregation by the residents. Trash sometimes clogs the drainage systems of the barangay, worsening the flood situation.
